The graphics are pretty from visual and technical standpoint, characters, their moves and everything else looks nice but as I mentioned there's too much repeating patterns and lack of creativity.

You have plenty of weapons in your disposal and you can upgrade them. Different party members have different fighting styles and the combat from visual perspective looks really cool. There are special moves of course and skills. Besides this takes away the ability of tactical combat and leaves most of the combat for button mashing. But you need to react and make decisions quite fast and I don't like that. Enemies execute attacks every few seconds or so. Tales of Zestiria is more on an action side, there are still something resembling turns but the battles are active where you can run around and attack when you want. That's why I really love FFXIII combat, it was a good middle-ground between active and turn based combat model. But it's annoying when fighting all those regular monster where you wait your turn just to click the same attack button and be done with it. Turn based combat is great for tougher enemies since it gives time to think and execute your strategy well by making well thought tactical choices. I prefer turn based combat but I also hate it at the same time. The combat is something I don't like at all. And best ones are obviously anime style cut-scenes, these are really beautiful and appear at important parts of the story.

Mostly in either 3D real time cut-scenes or in 2D style resembling visual novels. You'll be talking with people, learning new stuff related to the lore and story and while the lore is quite interesting and story has its good moments, it's nothing special, just ok.Ĭharacter interaction and story telling is done in three ways. I'd say it looks ok'ish, there are certainly worse offenders when it comes to dull environments *cough*Neptunia*cough*. There are cities but again neither their design or architecture stands out, again they look generic, standard buildings with generic npc's and some ai walking around. It looks pretty at times and it looks completely dull most of the time. You see same repeating textures and assets all the time. Vast areas filled with monsters and nothing more, you just go to where you need to go killing monsters on the way. The world you can explore is massive but it's pretty empty. Some characters are more likable than other and I bet you'll find one or two character pretty fun. Although mostly doesn't mean it's all generic. There are some good moments, some really good dialogues and there are times you'll laugh but mostly it's just generic stuff, generic characters, generic combat, generic story. Cannot be compared to Berseria or other jrpg's like Final Fantasy. Story too is nothing to be excited about. I found main character extremely generic and boring. It's not a bad game, worth playing for jrpg fans when you already played all the better ones. I loved the latter one and its dark story but I can't say many good things about this one.
